The Roomba® j series robots utilize a front-facing camera and a front-facing LED, allowing the robot to accurately see and avoid objects on the floor during a cleaning run. The camera uses the front-facing LED to view objects on the floor better, but is not bright enough to allow the robot to run in the dark.

Robot cleaner might get stuck in places such as cul-de-wall where curtains and thick carpets are nearby. In such case, please use virtual wall or put obstacles to prevent robot cleaner gets in (unless you have a j7 model, for which Virtual Walls are incompatible).

However, you can greatly extend the life of a robot vacuum if you wipe down the sensors once a month, and replace the filters and brushes as needed. If you get a more affordable model, like Roomba 675 you can expect a lifespan of up to two years.
