Oxford University

This venerable University is the oldest in the English speaking world. Its beautiful buildings were used for many of the most striking Harry Potter filming locations in England, standing in for various parts of Hogwarts Castle.

Located in a huge sprawling castle in the Scottish highlands, the celebrated school of witchcraft and wizardry taught its young students how to finesse their magical skills.

Intended to mirror Hogwarts, Ilvermorny also had four houses: Thunderbird, Wampus, Horned Serpent and Pukwudgie. The students wore robes in blue and cranberry colours and they were fastened by a gold Gordian knot to represent a brooch from Isolt's Irish home.

According to Encyclopedia Britannica, "Witchcraft thus defined exists more in the imagination of contemporaries than in any objective reality. Yet this stereotype has a long history and has constituted for many cultures a viable explanation of evil in the world".

Christ Church offers rooms for single or twin occupancy. All guests should be over 18, but babies and children can share a room with adults. “Christ Church is not the only real-life Hogwarts in Oxford. The seemingly misnamed New College, which actually dates back to 1379, is also familiar to Potter fans.

Azkaban is a fortress on an island in the middle of the North Sea. It serves the magical community of Great Britain as a prison for convicted criminals. Azkaban was built in the 15th century and it has been in use as a detention facility since 1718.

Since 2012, visitors have been able to explore the real sets. A special attraction is the giant model of Hogwarts - the Harry Potter castle - actually used in the film. It's a model - so you can't stroll through it of course, but you can wander around these extraordinary sets: The Great Hall.

Thanks to J.K. Rowling, Pottermore and the Internet at large, we can figure out how much Muggle money you'll be spending on your first year learning how to cast spells and look cute in a wizard's hat. The answer: about $43,301 USD per year.

Rowling begins the story of Ilvermorny by narrating the life of a pureblood wizarding immigrant named Isolt Sayre. Isolt escaped an abusive childhood in Ireland by sailing to America on the Mayflower in 1620.

Koldovstoretz School is the Russian Wizarding school, located in a hidden part of Lake Ladoga. It always accepts students from Russia and students outside of the country may apply if they wish.

Yale University is unquestionably one of the Hogwarts-like universities. Fun Fact: Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England and home to the dukes of Northumberland for over 700 years has been used for shooting exteriors of Hogwarts!

Both theme parks at the Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida – Universal Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida – have Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed environments.

Seeing as our letter of acceptance to Hogwarts hasn't been forthcoming, Bothwell School Of Witchcraft is the next best thing: a fictional school of magic where guests can immerse themselves in a live action Harry Potter-esque experience. Ooooh.
